Find The Needle Multiplayer and Mods (2026): Co-op Status
Find The Needle is single-player only on Steam, with no co-op, no multiplayer and no Workshop support listed. Here is what the tags mean and how mods may work.
Find The Needle is a single-player game. The official Steam categories list Single-player and Family Sharing. They do not list multiplayer, co-op, online co-op, local co-op or PvP. The demo (App ID 5165210) does not list multiplayer either.
This matters because Steam's user tags show “Multiplayer” and “Co-op” near the top of the tag list. Tags are voted on by players and can describe the genre, the vibe or a feature people want. They are not an official feature list. The developer's categories are.
Store categories checked November 2, 2026, before the Early Access launch. The game is Windows-only and single-player. No co-op mode, multiplayer mode, dedicated server or Steam Workshop support was listed.

The short answer
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Online multiplayer? | No |
| Local co-op? | No |
| Steam Remote Play Together? | Not listed |
| Dedicated servers? | No |
| Steam Workshop? | Not listed |
| Official mod support? | Not listed |
| Single-player campaign? | Yes |
| Family Sharing? | Yes |
If you want to play with a friend, the supported options are sharing a screen in the same room or taking turns. There is no in-game invite, lobby or co-op save.
Why the Steam tags say “Multiplayer”
Steam tags are a folksonomy. Players can apply “Multiplayer” to a game because:
- they want multiplayer
- the game resembles a multiplayer game
- the store's algorithm surfaces it
- the tag is being used loosely for “social” or “streamable”
They are useful for discovery and unreliable as a specification. The same tag list includes “Co-op” at a lower weight. Neither tag overrides the official category block.
The demo's suggest results include “find the needle demo multiplayer” and “find the needle multiplayer,” which shows the confusion is common. The answer is still no: the store does not list the feature, and no developer post promises it.
How to play with friends anyway
There is no native co-op, but you can approximate it:
- Share screen on Discord. One player digs, the others plan the factory and call out needles.
- Take turns. Pass the mouse every 30 minutes. The second player inherits the save.
- Race separately. Start two Standard saves and compare progress after a few hours.
- Stream. Use Twitch or Discord streaming and let chat vote on upgrades.
These are workarounds, not multiplayer. Do not buy the game expecting a co-op patch. If co-op is a must-have, the comparison game Needle In A Haystack Simulator was announced with 8-player co-op; check its store page for the current status. That is a different game from this one.
Mods: what is confirmed
Nothing. The store does not list Steam Workshop, official mod tools or a modding API. That does not mean the game is unmoddable; it means there is no supported pipeline.
After launch, mods may appear through:
- Nexus Mods — a common host for single-player PC game mods
- GitHub — tools and save editors
- Steam Workshop — only if the developer enables it
- Discord — community patches and configuration files
We will not link to unknown executables or “unlock all needles” tools. A save editor that writes an invalid save can corrupt a 30-hour run, and a pre-launch “mod” is almost certainly fake.
What a co-op mod would require
A real co-op mod would need:
- a second player entity in the world
- synchronized hay, machines and money
- a host/client network model
- save handling for two players
- UI for invites and disconnects
That is a large project, not a config edit. Unless the game's code is unusually mod-friendly, a co-op mod is unlikely in the first year. Treat “co-op mod” search results as speculation until a working release exists.
Mods and Early Access
Early Access is the worst time to build a large mod:
- the game's code and save format change between patches
- the developer may add the feature officially
- mod loaders break with every update
- bug reports get mixed between vanilla and modded games
Small quality-of-life mods are more realistic: UI tweaks, keybind changes, maybe a planner overlay. Total conversion mods are a 1.0 project.
Does the game support controllers?
The store does not list controller support. The game is first-person and uses mouse look, so a controller is possible but not officially supported. On Steam Deck, Proton and Steam Input may bridge the gap; see the Steam Deck page for the current status.
Will multiplayer be added later?
The roadmap does not mention it. The store's full-version note lists more machines, more diggers, bigger late-game projects, balancing and polish. Multiplayer is not on that list. That is not a permanent no, but it is not a planned feature.
If the developer adds co-op, this page will be rewritten with:
- the mode type (online, local, Remote Play)
- player count
- save behavior
- cross-play status
- setup steps
Until then, the correct answer is single-player only.
